Challenge #22 – 3 Wishes

General 5 Replies

22. 3 Wishes

Wish #1: I would wish for a career for both SharkBoy and I in Florida, preferably within 30 min driving of the front gates of DisneyWorld. Something we both enjoy and can make enough money off of to sustain a yearly pass, the occasional cruise and a home with a lanai.

Wish #2: I would want everyone in the world to have a decent level of altruism magically injected into their psyche. Just enough so that people see that standing on an escalator is ok IF YOU KEEP TO THE RIGHT. Or that ORGANIZING YOUR PURSE while STANDING AT AN ATM is NOT an IDEAL TIME TO DO SO. Or that other people may not want to HEAR YOUR GODDAMNED CELL PHONE CONVERSATION.

Wish #3: I would want a talking monkey. With a fez. As a friend, not a pet, mind you. And his name would be Sheldrake. The third.

20. Your Dream Wedding

21. Something that stresses you out

I stumbled a bit over the last couple days with the blogging. Work is stressing me out a tad and when I get home I don’t feel like sitting in front of a monitor for any length of time.

And as a rule I avoid talking about work in a public form such as this so there’s your #21 right there.

As for #20, I’ve already had it. I do have a couple regrets about that special day but name me one person who doesn’t? Despite these TINY regrets, I don’t worry on it enough to think I need to have a “do over”.

However, if I were paid vast amounts of money to do it over again, I would definitely have it at the wedding pavilion at the Grand Floridian, Disney World. At sunset. With everyone dressed in Hawaiian shirts. And there would be a churro cart. And monkeys. With cute fezzes. And at midnight we’d all pile into a stolen monorail and do laps around the World, trying to do tuck and rolls into the lobby of the Contemporary Resort. Then we’d do shots on Space Mountain. Maybe break off the speed inhibitors on the Autopia ride and get those suckers really going. And bump the car in front of me. Ha! Wedding day! I can do whatever the fuck I want! Then as the sun came up and the wedding party started to wind down, we’d crash in the little grassy area at the foot of Main Street just as the first day’s guests came into the park.

Today social media overflowed into my life.

SharkBoy and I got up early-ish and had breakfast at one of our haunts… the Coach House on Yonge.

They Do, if You Ensue it Happens.

After, we hit the Toronto Reference Library for the TCAF where Social Media crashed into me hard. First I met Steve MacIssac of Shirtlifter fame and while my eyes hungrily ate up his thick frame (I follow his reference pictures on Flickr and smile), I happily shucked out $6 for a signed copy of his first comic. Signed. Suck it!!

Then it was a short hop to Joel Watson’s table. The creator of Hijinks Ensue was awesome and a really super great guy.

Me And Joel!

So I bought a book and he asked what sketch I wanted in the front cover. I hesitated and asked for “Joel”, not sure if I should have said “you” since the comic characters are of real people, himself included, in impossible geek situations. He hesitated too. “Me? Usually people ask for…”

“…Josh?” I finish. Josh is a gay character in his universe who 9 times out of 10 is the funny guy to Joel’s straight (ha.) man.

This is what I got:

I like you. I really like you!

After spending some time and cash, we wandered with our cameras down to the Distillery District and took some pics:

It's a Walking Eye, Hank! A WALKING EYE!

Then we walked down by some dockside bars and met up with @TomWDart. Actually he was out enjoying the sun and looked good especially after his bout with some viral thing.

Tall Tom

On the way home we saw some tumblers. Not the drinky drink kind, the bouncy bounce kind:

Boing!

And then SharkBoy was on his knees in the park. Tsk. But he got the shot!

Tyra called...

Now we’re about to sit down with a good movie or heroin or something. A perfect day!!

Challenge #18 – It’s Actually Learned

18. Something you’ve learned

In the last year I learned that when you get kicked, it’s ok to wallow in pain for a bit. But you have to move on.

In the last 6 months I learned that I have a deep desire to live in Florida. I have no clue how to make this dream come true.

In the last 3 months I learned that I can take a pretty snazzy photo. But even more important is that SharkBoy can take a wicked picture too. He has an inbred talent to be able to crop images to make them more dynamic and interesting.

In the last month I learned that I have to ask for a raise. If I’m denied, I feel obligated to seriously start looking for another job.

In the last week I’ve learned that I’m chickenshit. I’m waaay too comfortable with this job I’m in.

In the last 48 hours I learned that at 45yrs old, I don’t lose weight fast enough.

In the last hour I learned that it’s good to come out of a movie at 8pm at night and it’s still light out!

17. Favorite Picture of yourself ALL TIME Why?

I’m not hugely comfortable with getting my picture taken. You can tell because most of my pictures are of me making the stupidest faces ever. So I don’t really have a ALL TIME favorite picture.

But…

I do have some ones I like a lot:

Halloween! I love this shot of us. So child like.

This is the first of a lot of "A dino ate my hand" shots.

Just a nerdy, happy day with my favorite husband!

This... er... yeah.

Again, a fun day. I love our makeup.

I'm doing my best Christine Keeler

Happy!

In this picture I can seriously say that I fell in love with SharkBoy all anew. It’s obvious that I love him so much.

Geromino!

SharkBoy: What do you suppose Bear Grylls is doing right now?

Me: Drinking pee!

SharkBoy: I would think he was jumping out of a plane…

Me: While punching a tiger!

SharkBoy: …or something.

Me: I bet he’s crocheting a picture of a tiger getting a punch as he jumps out of a plane!

SharkBoy: While drinking pee.

Challenge #16 – Nicknames

16. Nicknames

As a kid:

Lipshizt. Dad couldn’t think fast enough to identify us when we were little rug rats being bad, so along with an accusatory finger and in an authoritative voice, he called us that.

DanMicheleJohnMichael. Same deal as above. He would go down the roster of kids until he hit the right one.

As a teen:

Ted the Head. Not sure why, but I think I was a bit of a egg head know it all in school.

Fart (or variations of…). During grade 5 phys ed. class, I was doing jumping jacks in front of Terry Dionne. As we hopped I could feel the pressure of gas build up until I couldn’t contain it any longer. With every landing, a small fraction of the overall fart would escape me. Bef. Bef. Bef. Bef. Terry went mental and started to cry/scream to the teacher that I couldn’t stop farting. I held that name for some time. Kids can be the truthiest of all.

These days I don’t have one. A lady at work calls me “Tee”. SharkBoy calls me “DeeAahr” every so often.

Challenge #14 – Eatery Me-tery

14. Favorite Place to Eat

I mentioned yesterday that I’m excited to go have dinner at Olympic. I can unequivocally say that this restaurant has not changed (other than prices) in the last 20 years or so, proving that consistency is the number one reason why restaurants succeed. I’ve never been to any other restaurant where the service, food and ambiance has not wavered or faltered, an amazing feat here in Toronto, where restaurants come and go like reality TV shows. There are things I will order 99.99% of the time, like the baked Panzarotto, and there are things to avoid (I’ve not gone back to the Ravioli in a few years… yep… still small for what you pay for, still not all that tasty).

I also favour other places. For your info, here they are in no particular order:

Tokyo Grill – Yonge and Wellesley. Order the Chicken Katsu. It’s all I ate for a year while in media school.

Coras – Yonge and Carlton. Quebec breakfasts made hearty and unhealthy! YUM!

Belly Busters – Yonge and Glen Echo Rd. Cheapest, biggest subs in the entire upper part of Toronto. Order the Super Stack and a taxi back to your office desk.

Bus Terminal – Danforth and Coxwell. They use to have the weirdest decor before someone ratted on them to the city. Food hasn’t changed thankfully. Great place for a breakfast!

Church Street Diner – Church and Gloucester. Small booths means intimate and fun service. They know how bears want to eat.

Ok2 Diner – Queen and Bertmount Ave. This is how you salvage a greasy spoon and turn it into something cherishable. Yummah!

Tango Palace Cafe
– Queen and way out there. I use to walk there all the time. Still has all the intimate charm of an independent coffee house, and none of the attitude.
