Where Deadrobot brushes up against celebrities

I Will Be The Richard Ouzounian Of Xbox360

Celebs and Media, Gaming, Personal Bits

jellycarThings have been quiet here at Dead Robot Heavy Industries. I have been very busy at work due to the whole “travel industry reacts with panic when bad things happen in the world” so stealing time from my company to entertain you monkeys has been seriously curtailed.

And my new job on the side has been stewing on the back burner: I am AndPop.com’s newest game reviewer.

I am waiting on the contract but it’s an email done deal as of this morning. I will be posting a new weekly (?) feature of iPhone gaming app reviews (mostly free!) and the odd Xbox/PS3/Wii review as they send the games to me. I’ll be posting my first entry with the next day or two. Woot! I’m going to be all 733t!

Of course that means more burn in time for the TV. I wonder if I can write it off?

Yes, Barack, There is a Santa

Celebs and Media

I got this email from my brother:

I don’t quite know where to post this, so I’m just sending it around.

I was watching tv yesterday during the day (and I understand exactly what that makes me) and Prez-elect Obama came on to issue his third statement in three days about what he’s going to do about the US economy. He was calm, focussed, witty and brief. As he made his announcement, the Dow moved from negative to positive territory, like a little dog following its master.

He took questions. A reporter asked him if he was worried about retail sales, and if he and the Mrs. would be hitting the malls in advance of Christmas. Kind of a dick question. He replied that he would be shopping, but that his children receive their gifts from Santa.

This guy is stepping into the most important job of his life, inheriting a spectacular mess, assembling a team and making a thousand decisions, and he has the presence of mind to protect his children’s belief in Santa Claus. Just in case they happen to be watching him on tv at that moment, making an economic announcement.

I mean, come on. You can’t not get your hopes up.

That or we should worry that he really does believe in Santa.

Death Note 2

Celebs and Media

Stay with me readers, I’m going to go all geeky/nerdy/anime on you with my thoughts on Death Note 2: The Last Name, a sequel you’ve probably never heard of. And if you have, you’re cooler than me!

Bit of a back story for you non-Death Noters: The original Death Note movie is adapted from Manga (aren’t they all?), about a young lad, Light Yagami (Tatsuya Fujiwara), who discovers a book dropped to earth by a death god, a “shinigami” named Ryuk. He sees a particular person’s face and writes their name in the book, they meet a tragic end. Light then takes it upon himself to see if he can rid the world of evil with the help of his book. Enter the police (as they do, when their criminals start to die off) who are trying to figure out why their crime rates are dropping, and suddenly you have a Crime and Punishment/Les Misérables kind of plot twist.

In Death Note 2, Light Yagami joins forces with the police to try to catch the serial killer “Kia” while the super detective “L” still suspects that Light is the killer.

Still here?

Okay so the whole point of this post is that there’s a showing here in town of Death Note 2 at the Empire, December 3rd (see link above!). It sounds like a great chance to see derivative Japanese culture. Seeing how live action movies in an actual cinema setting is so utterly rare here in Toronto, I would say that this will rock quite a bit.

Or you can wait another 3 years and see Sarah Michelle Gellar in it. Trust me, see the originals.

Better Than Mama!!

Celebs and Media, Distractions

Be you flesh eater or pacifist plant mangler, PETA made me laugh today with a game that can either get their message out there successfully or make them seem a bit …um… batshit crazy:

I took the Flash file off because it had no sound control…

PETA wants Nintendo to offer more vegetarian options in the next Cooking Mama (is there a new game in the works?). I don’t care if they change the recipes, I do care if they re-voice the Mama character. Her ESL fractured cadence always made me laugh.

Bettah Than Mama!
NO GUD!
