I don’t recall any British groups up in arms when Austin Powers made countless bad teeth jokes.
But some people are touchy:
Roopnauth Sharma, president of Hindu Federation… objects to any film that mocks religion. “I don’t think that the concept of one’s belief in God should be anybody’s entertainment. I don’t think any religion would want to tolerate that,” he said.
So, comedians are not allowed to point out foibles and misconceptions of traditions and ceremony? Somebody needs a chill pill and a lesson in fascism.

i’m a red lectroid and i hate your entire goddamned planet.
It is indeed. Forgot about the Watto situation, too.
GTA IV on Xbox?? GET A PS3 DAMMIT!!
Good thanks! I’ve done three missions on GTA IV and Dad had tubes removed!
I remember that Nemodians thing, coupled with the Jamaicans up in arms about the Gungians and even anti semitic references with Watto the Toydarian (big nose! money dealer!). Stereotypical or was he pulling from current cultural structures? Its a matter of perspective, I’d say.
But in comedy, I would think you have *nearly* carte blanche to poke fun at anything. Taste is so subjective.
And another thing…everyone was up in arms when The Phantom Menace came out, saying the Nemodians were racist Asian stereotypes….but I guess since all the Brits playing bad guys WEREN’T drinkin’ a cuppa every five minutes, that stereotype is a-ok! Lame.
Hear, hear!
Irreverent comedy is the only comedy that actually challenges people’s thought processes on taboo subjects, dammit!
Good weekend? 🙂
