Sharkboy’s post of the Cure swinging a camera around all crazy like made me think of one camera effect back in the MTV era that I really enjoyed. A camera is mounted onto an arc and flipped over the actors, but with the arc supports outside the frame, giving a smooth ride down bizarre perspective street. I’ve searched for a while and could not find the name of this camera or effect.
Originally seen in this Cabaret Voltaire video:
Then echoed by ABC (embedding disabled, worth a look just for Martin Fry’s hair)
Then U2 did it too in one of their videos a decade later. Such innovators.

I have fallen victim to the young pop end of Lily Allen and Paramore. You will love the tunes, and trust me, if you weren’t gay you would also have some froth at the mouth over the visuals. My wife is straight and has candidly invited both of them over for “a night of fun.”
Yup. I married a party girl.
I have Sensoria (3 different remixes) on heavy rotation on my iPod.
I havent been watching rock videos lately. Have we seen a resurgence of in-camera effects after solid decade of high end CGI?
Ah. I found it on YouTube and it was different than I remembered. It didn’t have *that* move, but some very steady jib arm moves instead.
There was a cool Soul II Soul video (Back to Life?) that did a similar effect going up or coming down out of a big tree. I’ll have to look that one up. It wasn’t groundbreaking, but it was very cool and colorful.
